84 an hour GENERAL PURPOSE:
This is a position having responsibility under the Tax Collector for all areas involving data entry and maintenance of all online systems used in the Tax Collector's Office.
Supervision Received:
Duties are performed independently under the direction of the Tax Collector and are reviewed through conferences and meetings.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
Provides assistance to the Tax Collector in the following areas:
communicates verbally and by telephone with the general public, banks, and State and local officials.
Receives tax payments and validates bills.
Records payments into the computer system.
Calculates interest on past due accounts.
Prepares and mails delinquent statements.
Helps administer the procedures needed to collect delinquent tax payments.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:
Considerable knowledge of office methods and procedures of basic bookkeeping principles, methods and practices as applied to routine accounting transactions.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions; considerable ability to deal cooperatively, effectively, and tactfully with the general public and other employees; considerable ability to perform mathematical computations accurately; knowledge of the use and application of the computer as well as other office and accounting machines.
Ability to maintain complex files and simple financial records and to prepare clerical and financial reports and statements from the computer.
Ability to assume responsibility in performing assigned duties, some of which may be of a confidential nature; basic knowledge of Connecticut General Statutes as they relate to the operations of the Tax Collector's office.
Must have valid Connecticut driver's license.
Experience and Training:
An Associates degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Business or a related field and two (2) years' experience with computer administrative systems used in a Tax Collector's office OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Certified Connecticut Municipal Collector (CCMC) designation preferred.
Tools and Equipment Used:
Personal computer, utilizing word processing software, spreadsheet software, and the administrative software for tax collection; telephone; typewriter; 10-key calculator; copy machine, and facsimile machine.
